theBLKGZE is a gathering space for insight, resistance and imagination, where Black photographers speak in their own voice. There are two ways to add yours:
1. Q&A: Our headline series
This six-question interview invites Black photographers to reflect on their practice, influences and lived experience. Each response helps build a chorus of perspectives that resonate across continents and contexts.
The questions:
- How does the Black gaze relate to your photography practice?
- What do you want to say or address with your photography?
- What influences and inspires you? How is this reflected in your work?
- Who are your favourite Black photographers from the past? Why?
- Please describe the highs and lows of your experience as a Black photographer.
- What work are you producing and what more would you like to do?
We’ll share your answers together with four of your images, a short bio and links to your website or socials.
2. My Peoples: One image, one story
Inspired by My Peoples by Jazzy Jeff (from The Beat Generation 10th Anniversary Collection), this strand invites you to share one image that speaks to the idea of “your peoples”.
It could be a portrait, a moment, a scene. Anything that expresses connection, community or memory. Alongside your image, tell us why it matters.
